According to legend, before our ancestors ascended from wild ape to domesticated man, they returned to the water as aqua apes. Regardless of the validity of this reasoning, I chose to illustrate such a creature for the Atlantis Exhibition in 2009. Charles added ink and some color. A flattened scan won’t do any of this series justice, because it compromises the thick application of gesso beneath the paintings. Its like frosting!
